We spend an average of 90,000 hours, or about ten years, working give or take. Not all of us consider work the best part of their day. Author and pastor Scott LaPierre believes there is a way to have joy and purpose in all you do.
In his timely new book, Work and Rest God’s Way, Pastor Scott shares how to do meaningful work while learning the rhythms of rest, along with how we can also love our work and love our rest. Showing that it is possible to find an equal way to work and rest without one pulling from the other.
Scott has 5 ways to help the us learn how to work and rest God’s way:
- Find the rewards God has for you in your labor
- Learn why we need to put off laziness and put on diligence (both physically and spiritually)
- Discover the quiet, restful life that God sees as an act of worship
- Determine the balance between work and rest for your busy life
- Help your children value work and responsibility
Work and Rest God’s Way takeaways
Scott has plenty of time for reflection as you read, such as when you look back on your day, how much time and energy was spent investing in our relationship with the Lord? We do not slackoff at work, but when it comes to spiritual disciplines: prayer, church attendance, or Scripture memorization.
Putting off and putting on principle: when thinking about sin, we think about stopping, but not starting. If there is a sin we want to repent of, we must replace that with a corresponding behavior, see Ephesians 4:28 as an example.
