Death over Funnel Cake
I do not know about you, but I have been to many amusement parks in my younger days and I remember times where I would go the the local amusement park during the summer with my mom and brother and go around the park a few times, ride a few rides and then before we left we had to stop and get some food. Not just a hot dog or hamburger, but funnel cakes and elephant ears.
As I have gotten older, I do not have much of a desire to ride rides, but being here in Georgia I have found that there are plenty of fun things to do and I will eventually have to get over my fear of heights. You will find things to do anytime of the year and one of them that I have experienced while zooming around GA in the Mazda 6, See post here, was to experience Stone Mountain Park to take part in Stone Mountain Christmas. We were graced tickets to Snow Mountain and entrance into the park on one of the coldest Saturday mornings in Georgia’s history.
As some of you know, Stone Mountain Park is one of the most sought after attractions in Georgia and because it is a park that continues to change with the seasons and houses different festivals and events throughout the year, one visit in a year would not do this park justice.
We walked around and noticed an advertisement within the park for Red Velvet Funnel Cakes and I instantly had a flash back to my childhood, so while waiting for some of the attractions to open we decided to scout out our day by including time to stop and get a funnel cake. We went up the steps excited and eager to see about that funnel cake, we attempted to open the door and it was locked. We asked one of the employees nearby about the time the restaurant opened and it was an hour later.
As mentioned before, we were graced tickets to Snow Mountain for the 1st session which was first thing in the morning. We were the second couple in line and the line started to grow longer as time went on. Strong suggestion: if you plan on taking part in this attraction (it is a separate price), please make sure to reserve your time online, Snow Mountain and Christmas Adventure.
Even for a person that does not like heights, I had to make the most of it and brave it. I was honestly not brave enough to do the separate tubing thing, but I did do the group tubing about 3-4 times. It was so much fun and I would recommend it. After some time was spent watching others and enjoying Snow Mountain for ourselves, we went back to the restaurant to get our funnel cake, but once again it was not open. So we decided to just come back after enjoying the rest of the park, just to help ensure that the restaurant was open the next time because it was getting ready to be death over funnel cake.
We decided to ride the Sing-Along Christmas train around the park which was great in the day, but would be breathtaking at night because of all of the Christmas lights. A few of us bellowed along with the words on the screen, but there were of course a few of sour pusses that did not want to take part in the singing.
We enjoyed other things like, Mrs. Claus, Snow Angel Experience which was a new attraction, ride the Summit Skyride (controversial confederate memorial carving), Bumble (Abominable Snow Monster), Mammoth Christmas which is a new attraction and a glassmaker.
If you are looking for a grand ole time singing along with some talented singers then you would enjoy the Holly Jolly Cabaret.
We went around the park so many times, we lost 5 pounds, but shortly after that we certainly put it back on with the food selections and finally after the 3rd go around finally obtain the red velvet funnel cake.
This is a park where there is plenty to see and do and yes once you are out there you will want to stay and see the fireworks at the end of the day. So when you come to Stone Mountain plan to stay all day and don’t worry, you will enjoy yourselves. Stone Mountain Christmas is available until January 3rd, 2016 and Snow Mountain is available until February 28, 2016.
I am so grateful that when we took those stairs for the 3rd and final time, that the restaurant that served the funnel cakes was open, because it was going to be death over funnel cake if it wasn’t. To answer the question in some minds, yes it was worth the wait and the pounds lost going up and down the stairs to get it.
Have you been to Stone Mountain during Christmas? What was your favorite part?
