Best Things To Do In Mississippi

Trip partially sponsored by Coastal Mississippi and their friends. All opinions and reviews are my own. #MSCoastlLife #SecretCoast

One thing that happens when you visit a new town is looking for something to do. You don’t leave your town and visit another one just to stay in, do you? I sure don’t. What I do is explore and thanks to Coastal Mississippi’s help, I was not bored. Some of the best things to do in Mississippi are reasonably priced for adults and even less for kids. Finding things to do does not have to be expensive, in fact, there is a wonderful must have purchase, before visiting the area.

Coastal Mississippi Attractions Pass

The Coastal Mississippi Attractions Pass can save you a lot of money and the coolest part is that it can be personalized to meet the needs of you and your family. Coastal Mississippi is comprised of three coastal counties including Jackson, Harrison and Hancock. It spans 62 miles along the Gulf of Mexico and overlooks the Mississippi Sound. The Attractions Pass will take you through all three counties with a very short span between each attraction, all with great food nearby. Perfect for visitors and residents. Let me share some of my favorite places…. I am going to apologize upfront. All of pictures do not do some of the places justice. You have to see them in person.

Things to Do in Ocean Springs

This quaint community surrounded by beautiful live oak trees is the perfect place to relax, shop and eat. It was quiet peaceful and stunning. I heard that in this area there is a such thing as “go-cups”. I have to go back and experience that. How come no one told me:(

After walking around taking pictures, I ran to my next attraction, Walter Anderson Museum of Art and it was worth my sore feet. My fault that I didn’t wear my comfortable shoes. Ha Ha. This museum is dedicated to celebrating the work of Walter Anderson who depicted the life (plants, people and animals) on the Gulf Coast. Despite a lot of pain, he created some beautiful and rememborable pieces. Open Monday-Saturday 9am-5pm, Sunday 12pm to 5pm. Contact the museum for admission prices, but it can be a part of your Attractions Pass.

Things to Do in Biloxi

Betsy Ann Riverboat Sunset Cruise is perfect for couples due to the romance of the sunset and all, but this is an attraction that the entire family can enjoy. The 2 hour cruise was calming and they allow for you to bring your own food, so pack up your picnic basket and get ready to set sail.

Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum was a very interesting tour covering over 300 years of history, heritage and culture of Biloxi and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. One can spend hours in there viewing all of the exhibits on shrimping and oystering. The original golden fisherman, had a fight with Hurricane Katrina and she won.

Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art is another great option available in the Attractions Pass. This non-profit dedicated to the ceramics of George E. Ohr, the self-proclaimed “Mad Potter of Biloxi.”

Due to the rain and last hurricaine, some of the areas were not open. I did have a chance to visit the City within a City (African American Culture in Biloxi) and the Exhibition (A Taste of Vietnam).

Recreation of Pleasant and Georgia Reed Home

The day before I left, it rained and I wasn’t fully able to walk the West Biloxi Beach Boardwalk. Make sure during your visit to take a stroll. Lots of restaurants and shops to be found there, so add it to your itinerary. Although the Biloxi Lighthouse according to their website has guided tours, but I was a little late for it. If you like seeing unexpected things, just look around, you may see tree carvings of all over the place. See why I have to come back?

Must See Mississippi Aquarium

Last, but certainly not least was the Mississippi Aquarium. This was the highlight of the entire trip. Now Atlanta does have a nice aquarium and so does Michigan, but this one was and is special. Housed with exhibits inside and outside, makes all of the difference in the world. More like the natural habitat of the animals. Leaders in conservation and animal research, Mississippi Aquarium cannot be beat. That outside portion of the Aquarium made all of the difference in the world. There are daily programs and events going on, so to stay abreast make sure to plan your visit by visiting: https://www.msaquarium.org/p/plan-your-visit/at-the-aquarium/daily-programs

Some of the best things to do in Mississippi will see me again soon and the Attractions Pass will make it affordable.
