Basquiat and Vik Muniz at the High Museum of Art
“It is about the process getting there, not the end result.” says Vik Muniz at the High Museum of Art while at a Media Premier of his exhibit. I believe not every artist would say that, do you?
I was privileged to be able to take part in this premiere of two special artists, Basquiat and Vik Muniz at the High Museum of Art.
Vik Muniz
This artist that was born in Sa’o Paulo, Brazil wants his art to be intelligent and accessible to everyone and once you get a good look at his pieces you will see why. This renowned artist works with various unconventional materials, such as chocolate, dust, junk and much more.
Look at the above picture and see if you can tell me what he made it out of. Any guesses?
Everyday toys that are played with by children all around the world can be found in this piece of art. Vik wants to challenge the viewer with things you think you know. Check out the pieces below:
These are absolutely beautiful pictures and you can see these and more at the High Museum.
Basquiat
This artist was born in Brooklyn, New York and tragically died before the age of 30 years of age. The main feature or focus so to speak is, The Unknown Notebooks which he created that had handwritten text and sketches. Untitled (Cadmium) is a painting from 1984 that the High has as part of it’s permanent collection. Brooklyn Museum organized this exhibition and it continues to show the love that many in Brooklyn and all over the world have for this artist still. Lots of detail and it is only a portion of what was going on in this young man’s life and surroundings.
This was an interesting adventure of surprise, happiness and pain. Through all of these pieces and others that I could not capture, you will walk away feeling the same way I did, wanting more.
Both artists are being showcased at the High starting February 28th and you do not want to miss it. Tickets and special offers are found here: ⇒Tickets
