Per directions, you are supposed to wash your hands first and then apply a thin layer of the gel on the area to which you want to see change. Use twice a day and you are to continue the application until the scar lightens.

I used it on a scar (partial iron) that I had obtained from when I was a teenager. There is a very small scent associated with the scar gel, barely noticeable at all but make sure you rub in the gel completely or it can possibly stain your clothing.
