Marietta Square Gem Piastra
Marietta Square Gem Piastra
On a beautiful Tuesday night in the Marietta Square I was able to take part in a wonderful wine and food pairing. In the heart of the Marietta Square, Piastra Restaurant is one of those hidden gems. I have been to the Marietta Square many times and have never been to the restaurant until that day thanks to Culinary Local.
I felt that I was a VIP with all of the participants of the Italian Varietal Dinner were in a separate room off to the back. I met Chef Greg and the representative from Cliffhanger Wines and they both are/were a wealth of information. Chef shared why and how he chose his selections of food for the parings and the guests learned about the different types of wines and the grapes used to make certain wines.
Here is what you missed:
Course 1:
Cliffhanger Vineyards Pinot Grigio
-Yellowtail Carpaccio, Vidalia Onions, Radish, Red Peppers
Course 2:
Stemmari Nero D’Avola
-Torta Di Funghi – Mushroom “Pieâ€, Roasted Shallots and House Made Ricotta
Course 3:
Cliffhanger Vineyards Proprietary Red Blend
-Charred Octopus with Toasted Almond and Black Olives over Spaghetti Squash
Course 4:
Tolloy Pinot Noir
-Boar Sugo with Goat Ricotta and hand rolled Fazzoletti
Course 5:
Castello Di Querceto Vin Santo del Chianti Classico
-Mascarpone Cheesecake with Sour Cherries and Almond Brittle
It was a generous amount of excellent food and wine for a very reasonable price and everyone left saying that they will be back for more. My favorites were Courses 4 and Course 5, but all of them were good. This was a great time for my try something new segment because I had never had boar or octapus.
