40 Days of Decrease

40 Days of Decrease

A different kind of Hunger and a different kind of Fast, says Alicia Britt Chole. This book caught me by surprise, but in a good way. I thought that it was going to be about what one would call a traditional fast, however it was not. It focuses not on just decreasing of some type of food or food period. It is about reducing/decreasing one’s challenges within a person’s soul. It is taking a walk with Christ focusing on His walk on the way to Calvary and how He reduced Himself for our sake and how important the entire act is and that it is not to be taken lightly.

Each chapter or days devotional which is 40, has a portion in which there is a reflection period, a fast for that day and on a different portion on Lent (a time for introspection, repentance and fasting that takes place 40 days prior to Easter). My favorite days were days 8, 12 and 15.

Day 8 was a fast from “Fixing it” which is a fast from the need to fix someone else’s pain. Day 12 was “Isolation” which is a fast from being alone. We all need someone each other. This walk is not easy and Day 15 was a fast from “Spiritual Self-Protection” which is a fast from not feeling safe even in regards to the God of the universe (when we may have chosen to trust God but was crushed in the end).

Truly,40 Days of Decrease is not just for the time around Lent, for it can be used as time alone with God at any time period that you feel that it is too much of you and not enough of Him which let’s face it all the time:)
