2023 Atlanta Film Festival Virtual Screenings

I have received a press/media pass to be able to attend the Atlanta Film Festival. #atlff

Celebrating it’s 47th year of film excellence, 2023 Atlanta Film Festival was the highlight of April in Atlanta. More than a weeks worth of activities, including happy hours, screenings, celebrity sightings, and eager film goers.

There were many screeners amongst the over 9000 submissions that were chosen that could be enjoyed in person and virtually. After reviewing the festival schedule, I decided which days I could tackle the traffic and head downtown for the screenings and/or events and which days I just could not make it and view screenings virtually.

Amid the tumultuous events of 2020, a mysterious speak-easy in Atlanta becomes a home for a group of young people to share their stories of loss, resilience, and hope. “Twenty” is an observational film, set in a dreamy underground world, witnessing a group’s unique yet universal vulnerabilities—shown through scenes shot in intimate black-and-white.

2020 was a rough one for all of us and being able to share how one feels without judgement is rare. These young people found a place where they were able to come together and share their truths.

Jasmine, a determined 16-year-old with albinism makes it her mission to become a professional model in her hometown of Minneapolis, while attempting to go unnoticed in every other aspect of her teenage life. Against the backdrop of fall in the Twin Cities, Jasmine explores what independence – and more importantly, what self-acceptance – looks like for someone like her.

Self-acceptance is something that all of us need. Sometimes we feel that being different is a bad thing, but it certainly can be turned into good.
